Cardamom Export Specifications

Varieties

  • White Cardamom (Amomum compactum / Amomum cardamomum) → native to Indonesia, widely used in Asian markets.

  • Green Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) → more popular in international markets (India, Middle East, Europe).


General Specifications (Whole Dried Cardamom)

  • Moisture Content: max. 10–12%

  • Volatile Oil Content: min. 2–4%

  • Seed Content: full, not hollow

  • Color: bright green (premium green cardamom) or clean white (Indonesian white cardamom)

  • Aroma & Taste: distinct characteristic aroma, free from musty or moldy odor

  • Impurities: max. 2%

  • Ash Content: max. 8%

  • Acid Insoluble Ash: max. 1–2%


Grading of Cardamom

  • Grade A / Premium: whole intact pods, bright color, uniform size, high essential oil content.

  • Grade B: partially broken pods, less uniform color, aroma remains strong.

  • Grade FAQ (Fair Average Quality): standard quality, includes broken pods and mixed colors.
